The tropical lifestyle is what most people think of when they hear coconut. Allow me to take you on that trip, metaphorically of course; by telling you a couple of the amazing things that can be done for you just by slathering on a dab of coconut oil.
Pure, raw, (wink wink) virgin coconut oil is a marvel of it own. This one, simple pomade of sorts has more than 107 uses combined (however we’re just going to talk about a few things it can do for you 💖)
“From hair to toe, forever young while moist”
First things First, What is Coconut Oil? Happens to be made from the Kernel of mature COCONUTS. (Well DUH!) Anyway, coconut is high in saturated fat, so it is not recommended for consumption on and everyday ratio. It slowly oxidizes which means it lasts up to 6 months without expiring!
Besides all the major breakdown and culturing processes, the most important thing is to know the difference between Refined Oil and Virgin Oil. (Quick Class Time) Refined Oil is usually made from dried coconut kernel. It has more than 60% of the dry weight if the coconut. This type is actually not suitable for consumption because it contains contaminants, has no taste or aroma. So if you’re looking for that Island paradise coconut taste, this is NOT; I repeat NOT it. Virgin Oil is usually made from coconut milk–this type is EDIBLE, and has a taste and aroma.
Your Hair’s New BFF! Coconut Oil really does wonders for the scalp and hair itself. It can be used as a moisturizer for dry itchy scalps. Dandruff, Insect, lice protectant. Prevents breakage, split ends, and slows down hair loss. In some cases, I’ve found that a lot of people who faithfully use this oil for extended periods of time have had their edges (Aka: your hair line) thickened. To fully utilize and join in this routine, it’s recommended that you heat the oil first; then massage into the scalp and hair. Comb that Goddess mane to evenly spread oil from roots to ends; leave in overnight and wash and go in the morning (Cause who doesn’t love a good wash’n’go)! After my first treatment, I immediately noticed that my hair felt softer and hydrated. Results depend on the individual and what your are treating.
Skins’ Lifeline. One of the biggest reason more people add this oil to their regime, is because it treats a handful of skin disease. Eczema, Dermatitis, Psoriasis are just a few to name. Coconut oil just so happens to be a very good skin moisturizer as well as an excellent Sunscreen. It can reduce inflammation in the skin and body and has quite a few antioxidants that can help speed up skin’s healing process. You can also improve the look of burns and prevent stretch marks (hello!)
Common Household Uses. This may sound more of a DIY than a benefit, but you can make homemade soap with coconut oil, it’s a good grease fighter! (Just Saying!) Polish wood, Leather, and removes gum with this oil. Lubricate small machine motors, and treat that poor puppy’s itchy skin as well!
Health Benefits. Now this is the kicker people!! Coconut oil can Lower Cholesterol and Reduce the Risk of Heart Disease! It treats most Fungal infections, cold sores, and fights those nasty little ringworms. As well can lessen the symptoms of food poisoning and in some cases even cure it altogether. Here’s another kicker, it can reduce the effects and risk of Alzheimer’s. If you’re feeling a little sluggish lately, you can use it as an energy booster as well..
Chef’s Companion. Do we have our knives ready? Well while we’re waiting, let’s just get out those cutting boards to pass time with COCONUT OIL!! You can also grease and season your cast iron cookware, and use it as an oil/butter replacement (not too much, remember High Saturated Fat Levels!). Ran out of creamer? Well go on and grab that oil, because it doubles as coffee creamer too.
Tricks and Trade Secrets. Alright, I’m going to share this with you, but DO NOT TELL ANYONE! Wait, What am I saying? Tell everybody they deserve to know! It’s a great traditional Makeup Remover replacement (You know; the whole hydrating, moisturizing, treating skin problems thing that it does). Great massage oil, and Bruise healer!! Not to mention it has been known to enhance eyelashes (I mean who doesn’t want a pair of luscious lashes?)!!
So many different ways to use one thing! It’s almost crazy how we never really notice something so great right under our noses, or in this case; in the trees. I have good faith that you all will venture out and get some of that and spend the Maumea news to the world.
The end of our metaphorical tropical getaway has ceased until next time!
